HOTEL VILLA CAPODIMONTE - EVENTS IN NAPLES
from 18.08.10 to 31.10.10 Le Lune di Pompei (Pompeii by the Moonlight)
In a magical and mysterious atmosphere the ancient buried city narrates through its Eternal Moons (Lune) the mysteries that have never abandoned those places. The path, accompanied by the voice of the actor Luca Ward, begins from Porta Nocera and reaches the Casa del Giardino d’Ercole and the Orto dei Fuggiaschi (Luna della Speranza), where the casts tell the city’s last tragic night, then the Virtual Moon (Luna Virtuale), where sophisticated projections allow to gaze at the ancient view of the city, visible from its walls. It continues towards the casa del Profumiere (Luna del Successo), then along Via dell’Abbondanza (Luna della Vita) to relive scenes of everyday life in the most beautiful Domuses of the excavations (the Case di Loreio Tiburtino, di Venere in Conchiglia, di Giulia Felice) up to the Amphitheatre (Luna che non c’è), where large projections replicate on the walls of the arena ancient ornaments, while audio effects recall the noise and tumult of the time, during the games that used to be held here. A new and fascinating path to live the experience of the excavations during the night and discover the history, mythology and secrets of the world’s most visited archaeological site. Visits from May to October 2010 during weekends. From 06 to 22 August daily visits (Tuesday closed). Entrance: Scavi di Pompei - Porta Anfiteatro Website: www.lelunedipompei.com
from 02.09.10 to 12.09.10 Festa di Piedigrotta 2010
Piedigrotta is one of the most tumultuous, joyous and picturesque popular feasts in Naples. Its origins trace back to the ancient celebrations of erotic bacchanal, extremely ancient rites celebrated during the night with obscene songs around the simulacrum of the god Priapus. The feast is viscerally connected to two symbolic places of the city: the Cripta Neapolitana, in which orgies in honour of Priapus took place and the Santuario di Piedigrotta that replaced, once the cult was Christianized, the most ancient pagan chapel in the cave. In 1835 the feast became also a big music event: songs like Michellemmà and Io te voglio bene assaje become the soundtrack of the celebrations. The Piedigrotta 2010 ends with spectacular fire works on the gulf. Website: http://www.festadipiedigrotta.it
